The Rig

Tartan 30’s came in two different Rig/Keel combinations. There is a tall rig with a deeper keel and a short rig with a shallower keel (standard). I have a the standard option, my rig measuring in at around 44’ (keel stepped) and has a published draft of 4.92’. The tall rig has an extra 3’ of mast and a draft of 5.5’ resulting in an extra 500 lbs of lead.

I imagine this is a significant performance upgrade. Higher aspect foils (air & water) alone should make a considerable difference, not to mention the increased righting moment and favourable sail area/wetted surface ratio.

The Rig itself was in fairly good condition. The same can be said for the standing rigging excluding the backstay which was replaced with 8mm AS-78 Dyneema.

The running rigging is all New England Ropes Endura Braid. Which is a SK-78 Dyneema core with a polyester double braided cover.

I ran a new wiring harness up the mast in a foam tube & large unsnipped zip ties coming off it. This consists of a common ground (yellow), steaming light power (red), anchor light power (Black (although I ordered white)), VHF coaxial cable & a mouse line. All 12 AWG for the DC conductors. The VHF antenna is also new, along with LED bulbs for the anchor & steaming light.

All stainless fasteners & fittings were removed and reinstalled with Tefgel & nylon washers to mitigate any negative affects from galvanic corrosion.
