September 5th
Started the day by finishing off the stove cabinet, complete with an access panel for the galley sink drain seacock and water heater plumbing.
Batteries and the inverter are mounted in place
Installed a vent for the battery compartment. this is simply a floor register I picked up from the local hardware store.
Installed the water heater shelf and mounted water heater.
Faffed around with all the raw water plumbing, getting as far as I could with what I had, and making a list of things to get to complete the jobs.
Put the prop shaft in. I had the machinist at the shop I used to work at machine down a cutlass bearing, with a shoulder to put in the inboard side of the stern tube. This gives the shaft a second bearing point to help me get good alignment. I hope it gets enough water flow to stay cool up there. I then installed the packing nut etc. and coupling to get an initial look at the engine alignment. Last job to do down there is to repack the packing nut.
After this I mounted the 2 engine box blowers. these are mounted right next to the carburetor, so should evacuate any fumes incase of flooding the engine on starting or any fuel leaks. There will be an additional bilge blower and one in the front of the engine box.
I finished the day by taking a look at the galley storage behind the sink. Iām hoping to reuse some of the old cabinetry for this. You can see a photo of this mocked up below.
