Summary of Work:
Strip Hull - This was a good one for the shoulders
Pot Through Hulls
Re-Paint - 4 x barrier coat, 2 x hard bottom paint, 2 x ablative bottom paint
These photo’s are not necessarily chronologically organized.
Day 1 of scraping the hull. I used a Bahco carbide edged scraper for this.
The starboard side wasn't flaking off as nicely as the port side. Less sun?
After day 1 of sanding. I started with 80 grit, but promptly switched to 40. I switched between soft and hard pads on a 6" orbital depending on the curves of the hull.
I left the bootstripe for the time being, as I hadn't made a decision on what I wanted to do yet. At this point I had planned to paint the topsides at the same time.
Rudder has been dropped and I've started to sand the bootstripe off. The top of the black bootstripe turned out to be pretty fair. This will become the new waterline until I repaint the topsides next season.
Quick and dirty measurements for an outboard bracket
outboard bracket mockup no. 1
This was a hole for an old speedo. I plugged the hole and put a through hull in it for a raw water feed. It started to rain as I finished the repair, notice the water running down the hull just missed it!
The backside of the the swim ladder/outboard bracket mounting brackets. I cut a couple of carbon pucks from 4mm c-plate offcut to act as backing plates for these and glued them in with methacrylate. the metal hardware is bedded with 4000 UV
More sanding.... The bootstripe is totally sanded off at this point
Fairing the keel
I inherited some old bottom paint. My plan is to buy some black to mix the red and yellow with. Fingers crossed the black dominates.
Through hull fairing. This is the head sink drain
Fairing the transducer mount
Through hull fairing. This is the engine intake. I was suprised at how small the inlet it.
filling some cracks around the shaft log
This is a tang on the transom for the swim platform and outboard bracket. they used to mount outside the hull. I modified it to mount like a chainplate passing through the transom to better absorb outboard loads and look cleaner. Before painting the hull, the fastener holes will be filled over.
The first barrier coats go on. I was able to get 2 in one day.
