Playing sparky today.
Starting at the batteries and working onward I started running wires through the boat. It looks a little untidy right now, but once the zip ties are nipped up this will clean up nicely. Messy wiring is one of my greatest annoyances on boats. My goal here is make this system neat, simple, intuitive and easily accessible/serviceable.
I had an unexpected win pulling some wires through the existing conduit behind the interior liner. Normally these things are packed full, and the wires have zip ties or tape around them, making it impossible to pull a single wire out. I was able to get a 12 AWG triplex, and 8 AWG single wire through it with no drama, using some redundant wires in the harness to mouse them through. Love oversized conduit, in this case it is some kind of hard tubing and non-corrugated, well done Tartan.
The other sailboat you see below is another fixer upper (less so than mine) the yard owner mentioned to me its available, he has the title for it. He’d probably let it go for very cheap or for nothing. It has a running engine, maybe its diesel… not sure its a good idea to go down that rabbit hole.
A second win today was the person I bought my dinghy from found the spars, blades & sail for it. After a quick powerwash I rigged her up on land to take a look at things. It’s a sad sight at the moment, but I think she’s going to be perfect.
